Review: Claws

Image I really don’t know what made me want to read this book. I’m not a cat person. I mean, I like them well enough as long as they belong to someone else but I prefer dogs hands down.

Claws was written by Ricky Sides and came out in 2011. It’s the story of a group of cats used in animal testing. They’re given food that is enhanced with hormones that makes them highly aggressive, makes them gain weight, and helps them gain muscle. So what happens when these cats are released?  You guess it, chaos.

I liked the premise of this story. It is unique and for the most part, well done. I have to warn you however that the dialogue in many places is very hokey and I thought the end was just ridiculous. The good news for anyone who enjoys this book is that there is now a sequel out called, Claws 2: After the Apocalypse. After the way Claws ended, I couldn’t bring myself to read the second (and hopefully final) installment.

If this sounds like your kind of book, whether you’re a cat lover, or have an opinion one way or another about animal testing and experiments, you can pick it up for free.
