Review: The Last Town by Blake Crouch

Welcome to Wayward Pines, Idaho the Last Town.

Wayward Pines is the last town left in the world. In this town, people are told who to marry, how to live, and they are not allowed to leave, ever.

It’s really kind of hard to review this book without giving anything away. The Last Town is the third and final book in the Wayward Pines series. It’s more of a sci-fi, action series than horror, although it is quite scary in parts, which is why I’m posting a review here. If you haven’t read the first two books in the series, stop reading now!

*Spoilers Ahead*

In The Last Town, Ethan must deal with the consequences of telling the townspeople of why they’re in Wayward Pines. David Pilcher’s intentions and true personality come through and we finally learn the real reason certain characters volunteered or are sent to the little town. Ethan comes to a horrific realization of what will happen to the residents and does everything he can to save the town, its residents and above all, his family.

To truly appreciate and enjoy The Last Town, you really need to read the first two books. The Last Town can stand alone, but may not make much sense without the background of Pines and Wayward.

My favorite part of this book was the ending. It’s not exactly the happily ever after some authors resort to when wrapping up a series.

In short, although this is not technically horror, The Last Town is exciting and exactly what fans of Blake Crouch have come to expect. Great characters, flawless editing, and an exciting story will leave you wanting more.
