Review: The Final Diary #01 The Sickness by PB Simister

The Final Diary is the story of William Daniels, a well-known children’s book author, who has first-hand knowledge of the zombie virus. His wife, trying to do a good deed, got bitten, turned into a zombie, and tried to eat him. He eventually figures out he needs to get out of the house to try to find help. His neighbor Jim enters the picture and although Jim bullies William, they work together to get out of the house.

William and Jim head into town to find William’s daughter. Along the way they face unimaginable danger and pick up some unlikely “friends.”

I liked the The Final Diary for a couple of different reasons. It is written as a diary, which makes it all the more realistic. It is also full of twists and turns you never see coming, like how London became a hotbed for zombies, and I found the characters to be well written. I was hoping a few of them would die horrible deaths, but looking back, I think the way the author handled them was effective.

The Final Diary #01 is book one in a series, and I am looking forward to checking out William’s struggles in future books.
