When he’s not holding down a dead-end job or lurking in his mother’s basement, Tony Anastos spends his time shooting ultra-low-budget horror flicks. After meeting his sexy fame-hungry coworker Anna, he sees an opportunity to launch his career into cult stardom. But when Tony’s plan to jolt their next film’s Kickstarter into overdrive calls for real blood, he will sacrifice the last bit of his humanity for a shot at recognition. But it makes sense. Look at him. The stuff he makes, I mean, he’s the first one you expect.
Tony is a small-time film producer who lives in his parents’ basement and makes low-budget horror films. Soon, he meets Anna, an actress who has her own ideas about how a horror movie should look. Anna has far larger goals in mind and although she makes him uncomfortable, Tony follows her lead. They film a teaser and put it up on Kickstarter to raise money for their next production.
I got this book on a free promo from Amazon, but after reading it, I realized I would have gladly paid a couple of bucks for it. The characters in The First One You Expect were well fleshed out, despite the story only being around 100 pages long, and the plot completely believable. Despite being short, you’ll find everything in The First One You Expect: humor, crime drama, tension, and even some pretty gruesome scenes. The pacing is perfect for the story and the next time you watch a horror movie, you may find yourself thinking about The First One You Expect.
